Two More Gold Medals at the NYIOOC!
We’re excited to share the news that we’ve won two more Gold Medals at this year’s New York International Olive Oil Competiton, the most prestigious olive oil tasting contest in the world! This brings our total tally from the NYIOOC to over a dozen medals, cementing Ojai Olive Oil as one of the most award winning olive oils in the world : )
This year we entered our two favorites from the season’s olive oils, namely the Signature and Provençal. This year’s Signature oil is a mono-varietal bottling, of oil taken only from Columella olives. Our Provencale is a blend of sweet and fruity olive oils, taken from Nocellara del Belice, Columella, Picholene, and Arbosana olives.
Both of these olive oils came in with 0.06% free acidities this year, which is an incredible figure. That’s only 6% of the degree of oxidation allowed to call an olive oil “extra virgin”, meaning the oil is as fresh and flavorful as it can ever be. Our polyphenol counts also came in at amazing numbers, with 10-20 times the count of a standard “extra virgin” olive oil. That means these oils are not only exquisite in flavor, but also packed with good health, as it’s the polyphenols that impart olive oil’s much touted health benefits.
We took the last five years off from entering our olive oils into tasting contests, as we felt the point had been proven. And maybe to give everyone else a shot : ) But now that we’ve dipped our feet back into the contest pool, we’re realizing that it’s still quite satisfying to get recognized for all the effort we put into our olive oils.
Many thanks to our whole team here at the farm that make it possible for us to achieve at this level. And a special thanks to our harvesting & milling teams, for knocking it out of the park once again : ) We hope that you enjoy our olive oils as much as we do, and want to thank all of our customers for supporting us. Your patronage and appreciation makes what we do possible.
